What Time Is It?


Now on exhibit are sixteen watches from the museum’s collection. The watches were made from 1850's to the 1940's. Styles include pocket, women’s and wrist watches.
The personal time piece has existed since the 16th Century. Early watches were expensive and only the rich could afford them. During the 19th Century industrialization made the mass production of watches made it possible for everyone to
The impetus for the proliferation of the personal time piece was society was becoming more structured and governed by time. Prime example of this is the railroads which need accurate time for scheduling.
